AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
For the third week in a row there has been minimal movement in the market, especially for good quality, certified wool. It is an historically quiet period of the year for demand as it’s in between seasonal production requirements. Too late for the next northern winter and too early for the northern hemisphere 2027 spring/summer collections. Good wool with low vegetable matter (VM) continues to be favoured over high VM wool with lower yield and more expensive processing qualities. Buyers continue to prefer the better wools as they are again expected to be in more limited supply in the new season.

Forecast
Milano Unica was held in Milan last week. It’s the leading international trade show for high end fabrics. Most reports indicate that there was a welcome return of more long-term customers, but at this stage buying less. The recent increase in greasy wool price is one factor but consumer spending on formal and semi formal suits and jackets must improve.
