Comment
Combined North and South Island National Sale this week with an offering of 6,950 bales.
Selection consisted of 33% crossbred fleece, 41% crossbred second shear, good to average colour, 11% crossbred lambs, good to average colour, 13% associated oddments, 1% halfbred fleece and 1% merino types.
There was a significant strengthening in the NZD against most currencies and this combined with a quietening in demand saw prices come back to a level seen prior to the end of last season. Due to the significant change in USD, the comparisons below are based in USD terms.
Fleece
Crossbred fleece all styles up to 3% cheaper.
Most halfbreds fully firm but coarser styles up to 6% cheaper.
Shears
Crossbred shears all styles up to 3% cheaper.
Lambs
Crossbred lambs buyers favour.
Oddments
All oddments up to 2% cheaper.
Passings
42% passed in with a notable resistance from growers not willing to sell at these levels.
