FUHRMANN (Argentina)

Fuhrmann specialises in the production of fine Patagonian wool tops.

The Fuhrmann wool combing mill is located in southern Argentina in the Patagonian city of Trelew. Not only are we the largest exporter of wool and wool tops in Argentina, we are one of the world’s largest producers of organic wool tops.

The factory is ISO 9001, RWS, GOTS and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified and has an annual processing capacity of 4,500 tons of tops made from fibres ranging from 17.5 microns to 27 microns.

Fuhrmann has both a buying office sourcing wool from Argentinian wool growers and a privately-owned farming division, which directly manages 20 wool farms with a collective population of over 130,000 sheep. All of these farms are RWS and GOTS certified.

As an integrated supplier, we are able to trace the wool from the farm all the way to your production facilities.

Fuhrmann’s pride is its own estancia located at 4,000 metres above sea level in the Argentinian Andes: 100,000 hectares of land inside a 650,000 hectare natural reserve, the Reserva de la Biosfera de Laguna Grande, with the only government concession in Argentina to harvest wild vicuna fibres. The fibres are then transported to Trelew, Patagonia for sorting and subsequently dehaired in Italy. Over the years our painstaking work has helped protect wild vicunas and repopulate this endangered species, increasing their population from an estimated 800 animals to roughly 5,000 today.
