AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
The finer micron types are those most keenly sought after at the moment. This was needed as the gap between the finest merino and medium micron merino was not that great. Last year we did have an oversupply of fine wool due to the drought. These drought affected, fine micron bales are not available this year and this is forcing a squeeze for all wool 18.0 micron and finer. This is positive news. We don’t believe that the current prices for good fine wool should be considered historically high.

Forecast
Despite the market strength, we still can’t achieve 25,000 bales for the week nationally. There have been 10% less firsthand bales offered so far this season when compared to the same period last year. While the production decline is not looking as extreme, it’s the non-existence of grower held stock that would normally drift onto the market at such times. These factors alone make it difficult to see any decline in prices in the short term.
