AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
It was an extraordinary week for the wool market with unprecedented increases in price across the broad spectrum of types. It’s difficult to explain the reasoning for such a market reaction. We noted the finest microns were those again in the greatest demand and in particular, the better quality certified clips. The trading companies competed aggressively from the outset of the auction, and this continued until the close.

Forecast
We note that there are some sectors of the market that haven’t followed this increase and haven’t bought greasy wool for a little while. The decision making process about what to buy, when to buy and how much to pay, will certainly be far more complicated now. For sure, when the market settles, there will be a downward reaction as this market is an over-reaction to some supply and demand economics. However, with some sectors having sat on the side for an extended period, we might see more strength in the market than expected. Fine wool for sure, could still have room to move upwards if we are hoping to keep superfine wool producers in the industry.
