AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
The last sale of the 2025/2026 wool selling program ended on a negative tone. Although, with prices around 60% higher over the season, it was not necessarily a bad result. Growers who offered wool this week were prepared to take a risk with a little over 16% of the offering passed in and held by the grower. Rather than to sell in a negative market, they prefer to wait for a more positive market tone in which to sell their wool. The crossbred market again defied the general trend with the upward momentum continuing over the week. Perhaps the market over-reacted a little on Tuesday. The better wools were most definitely more difficult to buy on Wednesday and there were less holes in the market.

Forecast
The IWTO congress is being held in Dalang, China, this week. There is not a large commercial attendance this year, mainly due to the timing of the event. News remains positive with most expecting relative stability to continue in the short to medium term. Sale 01 of the new season will see around 33,000 bales on offer. Much less than the usual 50,000 bale sale that we typically have at this time of the year and this is despite of the much higher market. A clear indication of where we are with supply.
