AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
It was a week of consolidation this week with more modest movements in the market when compared to recent sales. The Australian dollar eased a little and this resulted in a lower EMI in US value. For our particular business, the most keenly sought after types continue to be best style and specification 17.0 to 18.5 micron where Italian and Chinese companies are competing strongly on the small supply. Light fault, higher yielding wools continue to attract the most attention of the buyers.

Forecast
It’s been interesting to see the total dominance of the Chinese market over recent months. They have been sourcing not only the Australian wool clip but also wool from all other origins of the world. The IWTO conference will be held in China in the coming weeks. Some trading companies will be in attendance, and it will be interesting to have some news about the general feeling going forward from the Chinese sector. Greasy wool stocks have been low and purchases for the next season should almost be at the end before decisions are to be made for the next season based on current wool prices. This will be important, but it might be a few months before a clearer picture is available. Supply remains at very low levels.
