Coarser market dearer, finer market easier.

Comment

South Island only selling this week with 7,500 bales on offer.  The selection consisted of 38% crossbred ewe and hogget fleece, mainly good colour, 31.0 to 37.0 micron, 12% crossbred second shear very good colour bulk 75mm, 20% halfbred fleece, 24.0 to 30.0 micron, 10% merino fleece super style 13.0 to 22.0 micron, 18% associated oddments and 2% miscellaneous types.  Main competition Continent and China with support from the Middle East, India, the United Kingdom and local carpet mills.

Fleece

Crossbred fleece very good style 10% dearer.

Crossbred fleece good/average style 4% dearer.

22.0-27.5 micron generally 50 cents cheaper.

28.0 micron and coarser halfbred fleece buyers favour.

Merino fleece slightly cheaper in line with Australian levels.

Second Shears

Crossbred second shear, good/average style 4% dearer.

Oddments

Crossbred oddments firm.

Passings

21% passed in.
