Nestled in the heart of the Waitaki Valley, Ōtemātātā Station has been home to generations of custodians who have cared for the land, the stock, and the stories woven through its hills.

Here, the Cameron family has been farming since 1891, when Hugh Cameron purchased Aviemore Station. Over generations, the landholding expanded to include Otematata and Awakino Downs, forming what is today one of New Zealand’s most iconic merino properties.

Now under the sixth generation of family stewardship, led by Hugh and Joe Cameron, Ōtemātātā is home to 30,000 fine-wool Merino sheep and 500 Hereford cattle.

Sheep that thrive in the region’s dry climate and tussock-covered hills, hardy animals that produce fibre renowned for its softness, strength, and natural colour — every fleece tells a story of care and resilience.

Our merino story continues to evolve, but its roots remain firmly planted in the high country hills we call home.”
