The market continued in a positive fashion today with the emphasis on the finer microns with best style and strength.

FLEECE

19.0 micron and finer, all descriptions 1-2% dearer.

20 micron and broader were irregular.

SKIRTINGS

16.5/18.5 micron 1/2% dearer, best style most affected.

NEW ZEALAND MARKET REPORT

Summary

Market generally firm.

Comment

North Island offering 7,950 bales and South Island offering 8,175 bales.  The selection consisted of 50% good/average colour crossbred and hogget fleece, 20% lambs good colour new season clip, 15% crossbred shears, good colour bulk 75mm and 15% oddments.  Some more spirited competition from the local and Australasian mills today resulted in pressure on China and the Subcontinent to take a more supportive role.

Crossbred shears all descriptions fully firm.

Lambs

New season lambs buyers favour.

Oddments

All descriptions generally firm.

FREMANTLE MARKET REPORT

COMMENT

Fine fleece 50 cents dearer, broader fleece 5-10 cents dearer, skirtings 10-15 cents dearer and open tops 20-30 cents dearer.

FLEECE

Most interest was for 17.5u and finer fleece today which saw prices jump 50-80 cents today. 18.5u and broader were generally 5-10 cents dearer. PJ Morris, Techwool and Lempriere were the main buyers.

The passed-in rate for fleece was 7.5%.

SKIRTINGS

Skirtings finished the day around 15 cents dearer.

OPEN TOP

17.5u and finer open tops were 30-40 cents dearer, while 18.5u and broader were firm to 10 cents dearer.

The market opened for 2021 on a sound note. A focus on fine and superfine wool that remains in limited supply.

COMMENT

Despite the large volume this week, the market has opened on a very firm basis, strengthening a little as the sale progressed.

18.0 micron and finer best 2% dearer, good fully firm

18.5 / 21.0 micron fully firm

21.5/22.0 micron unchanged

SKIRTINGS

17.5 micron and finer 2% dearer

18.0/20.0 par to 1% dearer for better lots, others firm

SCHNEIDER NZ MARKET REPORT

Summary

Market cheaper.

Comment

North Island only selling today with 8,100 bales on offer.  The selection consisted of 40% good/average colour fleece, 35% crossbred mainly good colour second shear, bulk 75mm, 12% lambs, 10% oddments and 3% miscellaneous types.

Continued subdued competition with China and the Sub Continent main.  Support from Australasian carpet mills and Europe.

Fleece Wools

Crossbred fleece all descriptions 2% cheaper.

Second Shears

Crossbred shears generally 5% cheaper.

Oddments

Crossbred oddments all descriptions 4% cheaper.

Lambs

First lambs 10% cheaper.

7% Passed In.
