For many centuries, the South American Camelids (Alpaca, Llama, Guanaco and Vicuña) have been part of the life of the Andean populations. Living at 3.000 to 5.000 metres above sea level, with extreme thermal conditions (-20°C to + 20°C in a single day), these wonderful animals represent important sources in every sense. Their soft and very fine fibres are used for protection, they are used as a means of transportation, and also food from their low cholesterol meat. These ancient Andean civilisations, preserved these animals for their own survival. |

These facts, forced the Andean peoples to understand the needs and habits of Camelids extremely well. This close relationship, was not only economic, but also spiritual. In the Inca Empire, these special animals were used in rituals. They were convinced that their God had placed them there, in order to make human life possible. The Incas knew, that life in the extreme cold of the high Andes, was impossible without the assistance of Alpacas, Llamas, Guanacos and Vicuñas. |
