| ALPACA Market Report |
| Market stable/slighly easier. |
|
Alpaca market has not been very active in the past months, even though we are in the middle of the clip season, which goes from November to April.
The fact that the prices remain stable or in some types has dropped very little is because alpaca growers are not willing to sell. The reason has nothing to do with the alpaca industry.
Most alpaca growers have one or more family member, who work in the mining industry, which is enjoying huge earnings from raw material prices (gold, silver, cooper, etc.) and therefore they get the benefits from such industry and don’t need to sell alpaca fibre for a living.
Moreover, there’s still the possibility that the Peruvian government would start buying some quantities of fibre, which would make the price not to drop or at least to keep it stable or maybe in some types to make it dearer.
