Guanaco (Lama Guanicoe):
Regarded as the "father" of the Llama and the Alpaca. Guanaco are smaller in size than Llamas, but bigger than Alpacas and Vicuñas. There are nearly 550.000 Guanacos living in the wild, mostly in Southern Argentina (Patagonia). Guanacos are protected by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) so its precious fibre (14.5 mic.) can only be legally commercialised by a proper CITES certificate. |
